Rainy Day Women #12 & 35

Bob Dylan is probably the greatest lyricist. Here is a song though that is rather to the point and simple, but it has a good message—as well as a not so good one. Dylan sings “everybody must get stoned.”

The on-the-top reference is speaking on how no matter what you do, there are going to be people to say you are wrong and sinful. Wherever you go people are going to “stone” you for meaningless things. This song sheds light on people like that, as well as a light for something else that I will allow you to get out of this yourself.

The song repeats many scenarios of when you will be stoned. It points out that in every situation from walking down the street to even death that everyone must get stoned. People can be increasingly self-conscious in their own life that they only attack others.

This song can be a pick-me-up for people that are going through a hard time with something. Everyone is in your business, picking, prodding, and poking for information. People seem to always have something to say. So let’s at least listen to someone who has something good to say.

“...I would not feel so all alone, everybody must get stoned.”
