The Golden Age

“I wished I lived in the Golden Age, giving it up on the Broadway stage.” Imagine what it would feel like to be famous during a time like the Golden Age. Maybe their pride led to their fall, but nonetheless.

The lack of restrictions, rules, and cares seemed to be the icing on the cake. Being famous now comes with many problems and isolation—paparazzi.

In the past, there was room to soar high, and many soared with you. There is such a gap in America between the highs and lows, more so than any other country. People can vary from literally poor to billions of dollars. Corporate world is gapped by something like 300%.

The Golden Age was a time that all could thrive, and many did. It is a cool thought to want to be famous in the Golden Age rather than the times we are in currently.

Let’s take the time to reminisce.

I'm Gonna Be (500 Miles)

For any of you who are going through long distance relationships or your special someone is simply far away on vacation—this guy—here is the song to listen to.

A couple of nerdy looking twins sing a huge hit and dub it I’m Gonna Be (500 Miles).

Pretty simple song; it speaks for itself. It’s also going to be stuck in your head for the next couple of days. So, if you have a special someone, here you go. If you do not, then when you do, you’ll still know all the words.

I know, I know…good lookin’ out. You’re welcome.

January Wedding

"She keeps it simple, and I am thankful for her kind of lovin', cause it's simple."

Listen to this song with this in mind: it's about a man who falls in love with a girl who is sick.
But sickness cannot stop him from loving her. He knows that she is dying, and he still wants to marry her. He marries her, and she begins to get more sick.

Her voice gets so low he can barely hear her. She is on the edge of death. She seems to understand her death and can see beyond it. For that, he needs her to help him and protect him through it.

In the end, it does not matter their circumstances anymore because she is dead and in heaven—hence birds and trees. On the surface it feels like a sweet little love song, but it goes way deeper.

The love in this song is the love a princess dreams about. It's the love that binds the world together and holds it from falling apart at the seams. It's the love that cannot be described as anything but—simple.

Wonderful World

This is honesty at its prime. I do not know much about anything in this world, but without a doubt I know that I love you. With everything else considered, he knows that he is in love. Even if it's the only thing he knows.

Sam Cooke wrote a jiving song that has to hit home for many people. You can even go deeper into and look at it as professions. I may not be smart and make a lot of money, but I love you and will always. I may not give you everything you want, but you'll have everything you need and you're all that I want.

What a wonderful world this would be.

Stir It Up

A young Bob Marley and The Wailers, here is a very sensual song.

It sounds like someone lighting candles slowly while a chocolate fountain is quietly drizzling and Marvin Gaye is on the radio. Flower petals are lining the floor each with a small chocolate piece in it.  It is soft, slow, and easy, but the words provoke so much more. Music has a formula to it; some people get it, some do not. Bob Marley knew the exact formula to get any message across. This song is no different. Take it easy, slow it down, and stir it up.

Black Betty

Oh, the age of drugs being the centerfold meaning of popular songs. Face value, you may think of this song as a man singing about a woman. Think again. Ram Jam is on speed, high out of their mind. Hence the speed of the song.

Not that I condone drug use, but this song can really get you going. Black Betty, the song not the drug, is like drinking a couple red bulls mixed with espresso.

So are you out of coffee this morning? Are you tired at work? Do you have that 2:30PM feeling? We've all been there; try Black Betty. It'll give you hours of energy without the crash! (Bam-ba-Lam!)

I Will Follow You Into The Dark

This band has some really great music. This is one of the first songs I heard by them about three years ago. Referred, enjoy the song we all know! And if not, you will. I think it is the simplicity of the song—so soft, so sweet. Such a great line, “Illuminate the NO’S on their vacancy signs.” I never really think of love past this world. Here we go with a love song for the hereafter. Till death do we part? No, how about I chase your cute little soul wherever it goes! You can’t get away from me that easy, sugar britches. “I will follow you into the dark.”

Going On

“Going On.” Gnarles Barkley puts out some very interesting music; this is a big guy with a big voice. The music flows perfectly like a stream, and then it hits profound stops when that stream hits the stones in the water.

The message behind it can relate to a few different things. It can be seen as him having to go on to prove that there is an afterlife, or it can be he is going to die and wants to live life to the fullest, or suicide to escape the trials of this world. Either of the views you take, this song can be applied.

I see it as all three. Their freedom is gone, and he has to know what comes after even if it means he is leaving the one he loves. He needs to know if this is his eternity or if he will have freedom after death.

In the beginning he talks about not being free, and needing to go on to find it, even if he has to go alone. The second verse is almost supernatural to me. He wants nothing to do with the people that need what they want, he is going to do what he has always wanted even if his lady will not follow, but he has to go on to know and prove it.

“I’m prepared to go it alone, I’m going on.”

Johnny Cash-"Oney"

6/12/2012

Oney

If you have ever had a hard job, too hard, or you have ever had a boss that pushes to the brink every day, here is a song for you.

Listen to Johnny as he relates to you with his own rendition of a boss named “Oney” who works him to the bone. At the end of his time with that man, I would say Oney got what was coming.

If you are ever a boss, treat your guys right. If you are only just a worker, remember, one day they won’t be your boss anymore.

So blow some steam and stress off with this song. Sit back, listen, relate, and work another long, hard day.

One Love-Song Around The World

“Playing for Change: Song Around the World” has done many renditions of songs involving many different walks of life. This is one of my favorites.

We all know it is a Bob Marley song, and we all probably love it. I like this version because of how powerful it is. There are so many different people playing to the same tune, everyone cohering, and all love.

If people could see past a few mistakes or flaws long enough to see someone for who they really are, chances are they would be surprised. Everyone has good in them, it is just whether or not you see it from their point of view.

The majority of people do not commit faults on purpose. There is usually a reason behind their action that you could try to see, and things could change. Just sit back and watch the video; let it sink in.

One love, one heart, bonded together, so let’s get together and feel alright.
